New Trials Control System at Aberporth Transportable Electronic Warfare Calibration Facility Electro Optical Tracking Instrument (EOTi) Underwater Remotely Operation Vehicle

The creation of the LTPA contract has enabled an investment programme to tackle obsolescence and provide technology refreshes. An investment fund exists for each five-year period of the contract, between them QinetiQ and MOD jointly propose a programme for the period. A business case is made for each investment and is approved by MOD TEST project team. Investments made so far total about £140 million. Some examples are given below.

  • New Trials Control System - MOD Aberporth
£9 million investment programme to implement an integrated solution for command and control trials at an instrumented air range.
  • Electronic Warfare Calibration Facility - MOD Portland Bill
A new facility installed to calibrate and test electronic warfare equipment installed on surface vessels, submarines and helicopters.
  • Upgrade to Electronic Optical Tracking Instruments (EOTIs)
An upgrade to the eight mobile EOTIs to provide better tracking capability for guided weapons, aircraft and other platforms.
  • Remotely Operated Vehicle - MOD BUTEC
A new system installed to recover valuable Spearfish and Sting Ray torpedoes from the seabed after a firing trial, thus enabling re-use.
