Ageing Aircraft and Life Extension

Tornado GR1

With decreasing procurement budgets, it may make sense to extend the life of air platforms to maximise the investment made in an asset. Through the LTPA, we enable MOD to extend the life of its aircraft platforms and systems, offering a safe, effective and affordable alternative to acquisition of new platforms.

We have Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS) approval and experience in maintaining and operating almost every aircraft in the UK inventory.

This expertise, together with our aircraft system subject matter experts and structural engineers, has resulted in the development of methodologies that enable customers to make informed decisions about the airworthiness of aircraft fleet inventories. Using a wide range of engineering and materials, our forensic specialists can conduct safety reviews of high-risk systems, and provide advice on remedial engineering where necessary.

Our capability in supporting upgrade programmes includes:

  • Options appraisal
  • Capability road-mapping
  • Obsolescence management
  • Aircraft modification and integration advice
  • Desk-top assessment and modelling
  • Practical ground and flight test services
  • Advice on change of aircraft role
